The Womb Cave and The Lost Thracian Mysteries

The sanctuary complex near the village of Nebeska is a complex with incredible rock formations, weathered over millions of years, isolated from trapezoidal niches and rock cavities. Observing the rocks, we are going to discover mushrooms, figures of animals and human faces in the stone. This place is filled with legends which enchant each visitor with its mysticism. Even to this day, locals speak of the great power of secret rituals floating in the air. The great Thracians would come here on horseback, they would spend the night in the Womb Cave and in the morning the young men would carve a cavity in the rocks. They would put gifts (bread or herbs) in the cavities as a way to worship the holy marriage between the Sun and the Mother Goddess. They believed the energy of God would seep through the cavities. This amazing Thracian megalith - The Womb Cave was discovered in 2001. The temple is shaped like the opening to a vagina. It leads into a cave about 22 meters. It was also additionally shaped by hand into a place of conception constantly washed by water seeping through the walls. At the deep far end of the cave, a carved altar symbolises the womb itself. At midday as the sun approaches its highest point in the sky, its light seeps into the cave through a special opening in the ceiling and projects a perfectly recognizable representation of a phallus onto the floor. As the sun progresses further, and the light slants across the interior of the cave, the phallus grows long

Arapovo Monastery and Slivodolsko waterfall

Arapovo Monastery “St Nedelya” is situated 28 kilometers north-east of Plovdiv, near the town of Zlatohriv (previously known as Arapovo). This unique monastery was built during the time when Bulgaria was under Ottoman rule. Legend says that water from the monastery's sacred spring healed the loved one of Arap Bey, who was a local Turkish governor. In gratitude for this miracle cure, Arap Bey gave them a piece of land where they could build their own monastery next to the healing springs. The main temple within the compound dates back to 1859; you will find evidence of this on the plaque above the west doors. It features six large pillars supporting the domes, whilst inside there are beautiful marbled tiled floors. Both the ikonostas or screen dividing off the sanctuary area and also the smaller images carved onto each pillar here were all hand crafted by none other than Georgi Ganchev -Zografu, arguably the best artist we produced throughout our entire national revival era. However, perhaps even more interesting still is the fact that right beside these religious relics stands another structure which once belonged to Ángel Voivodă ,a notorious rebel leader fighting valiantly against his oppressive Turk oppressors! As tradition would suggest, Ángel himself ordered the creation of such impressive edifice...and what did he create? Well let me tell ya folks…it looks like quite possibly the very finest example left standing today showcasing traditional architecture style combined together seamlessly blending elements borrowed equally between military fortresses & homes alike . Its shape being distinctly quadrilateral shaped base topped up nicely using some sort of turret design meant originally probably serving dual purposes acting simultaneously either watchful lookout post guarding potential intruders trying desperately making attempts breaching through those thick stony defensive barriers surrounding whole place OR alternatively providing comfortable living quarters too good refuse staying overnight if given chance.. Now about how does said fortress actually look now then?...Well firstly take note bottom half portion comprising initial couple levels appears predominantly composed entirely out solid rock material whereas upper level seems somewhat lighter framed instead opting towards timber framework allowing space expand outwards creating larger rooms perfect hosting guests arriving unannounced unexpectedly thus ensuring always enough room accommodate everyone comfortably regardless situation occurring presently happening site location point blank.... And finally don't forget mention ancient miraculous source hidden deep amongst monastic grounds just outside Northern gate leading access path toward spiritual heartland region marking boundary separating earthly realm divine domain territory belonging exclusively God alone residing therein forevermore Amen

Its altitude is 1,545 meters. The complex is situated on a meadow amidst a beautiful forest. The reason that makes Krastova Gora attract so many pilgrims from the entire country is the legend that a piece of the Christ’s Cross was buried here. Many legends speak about this place and all of them are related to the Cross of Christ and the wonder of healing. The church “Protection of Holy Virgin Mary” which was completed in 1995 is situated in the beginning of the chapel complex. Wonderful Bridges - Trigrad Gorge

In the morning we head from Plovdiv towards the Wonderful Bridges located at 1450 m above sea level in the heart of the beautiful Rhodope Mountains. This unique natural phenomenon consists of two rock bridges (with heights up to 45m) spanning a little stream. The marble bridges have been shaped through erosion caused by what used to be an impetuous mountain torrent. They feature prominently amongst the top hundred Bulgarian National Tourist Sites. Trigrad Gorge lies seven kilometres north of the town of Trigrad under soaring white limestone walls carved out during millennia by the waters of the Trigrad River. It has been designated a Nature Reserve since 1963. At certain points these sheer cliff faces stand around three hundred metres apart; however within significant parts of the canyon - approximately between 2km and 3km long - there's barely space enough for them not to touch each other being just hundreds of yards away. To the west the sides climb steeply upwards reaching almost six hundred feet whilst those facing eastward reach elevations ranging from nine hundred to eleven hundred five feet. Such colossal proportions rank this chasm number three amidst similar geographical features found throughout Bulgaria. As your journey continues winding alongside the meandering waterway which occasionally bursts forth dramatically from behind boulders...the water then vanishes underground near the mouth of Devils throat cavern emerging again nearly seventeen hundred feet down inside another grotto altogether. Devils Throat Cavern remains popular with tourists due largely to its magnificent waterfalls supplied by subterranean rivers cascading downwards across forty-two metre drops. Your tour starts promptly at 9am sharp. An hours twenty minute drive will take us directly to our first stop off point where we can admire the stunning views provided by the aforementioned Marvelous Bridges before continuing onwards....

Starosel Thracian temple and Hissar spa resort

In August 2000, a sensational discovery took place near the village of Starosel, in central Bulgaria. Archaeologists uncovered an enormous temple/tomb that they believe belonged to a Thracian ruler, perhaps even Sitalces I, who may have been the first King of a united Thrace Empire. This tomb or temple dates back to between the fourth and fifth centuries BC and has turned out to be by far the biggest ever unearthed. It's now referred to as the "Starosel" Thracian Cult Complex since numerous graves were located surrounding the main structure. During our tour today, you will firstly see the Temple close to Starosel; afterwards, travel onwards towards Hisar - with approximately seven thousand inhabitants - a tiny holiday destination renowned throughout Europe due to its thermal waters. Situated just outside the foothills of the Central Mountain Range at about 1,138 feet above sea level, it enjoys quite a temperate weather pattern along with more than twenty different types of natural spring water sources making it popular amongst both local Bulgarians and overseas visitors alike. As one of only three internationally recognized health spas within all of Bulgaria, Hisar is equally infamous for being home to some ancient roman relics too! You can find these remnants scattered across various locations such as old government offices, a miniature theatre venue, former military quarters used during times past when Romans occupied here, original church bases considered to date right back thousands of years ago plus probably most notably preserved fortresses built under their rule still standing tall amidst time itself... And don't forget seeing 'the Camel Gate', named after having collapsed down the center once upon a long forgotten era but resembling twin camel figures looking directly opposite each other until restoration work began earlier last century. After arriving in Hisar, enjoy taking leisurely strolls through lush greenery filled park areas surrounded by bubbling warm baths fed by underground minerals together with beautiful fountain displays while marveling at remaining pieces left behind by those distant civilisations whose legacy continues echoing loudly till present day....

Red Church Perushtitsa

The Red Church near Perushtitsa (20 km from Plovdiv) is one of the few remaining examples of Early Christian Byzantine architecture, well preserved until our days. Seeing these remnants of an ancient place of worship live is truly impressive - especially when you consider that some northern sections stand almost 14 meters high! This sacred structure dates back to the late 4th century AD and initially functioned as a Martyrion or shrine housing holy relics. Later, sometime in the course of the 6th century, it underwent transformation becoming a Basilica style edifice complete with additional chapels attached to each side - specifically a southern Chapel and a Northern Baptistry. Inside the latter there's even evidence of original Piscina basin used for baptism rituals shaped like a Greek Cross design. Unfortunately, due to invasions by Cumans and Pecenegs probably within the seventh century, significant damage occurred here. Between the eleventh and twelfth centuries major renovations took place not only restoring structural integrity but also updating fresco paintings while simultaneously constructing new necropolises northwestwardly surrounding site perimeter along west facade adding porch columns too now partially collapsed yet their foundations remain evident underfoot presently. All structures throughout complex constructed using local reddish brickwork known locally called 'Plinthos', bound tightly through pinkish cement mixture giving rise directly towards present day appellation "Red" attributed hereto architectural marvel. As far as frescos go we currently observe fragmented traces primarily located predominantly across lefthand nave interior surfaces & archways above passageway corridors all being direct descendants those restored works executed between aforementioned period spanning eleven thru twelve hundreds years past henceforward... Perperikon-Tatul Stone Wedding

The medieval archaeological complex Perperikon is one of the oldest monumental megalithic structures, completely carved out of stone. Located in the Eastern Rhodopes Mountains, 20 kilometers north-east of the town of Kardzhali and 97 kilometers from Plovdiv, this rocky settlement sits atop a hill rising 470 meters above sea level. One of Bulgaria's most visited attractions by tourists, religious activities started here during the fifth century B.C.. Over the final thousand years before Christ, these cave formations expanded until they formed a walled town complete with palace buildings and outlying districts; likely serving as a regal seat for Bessi Thrace tribesmen. Later Roman occupation introduced new levels of opulence and sophistication but were followed when Gothic invaders sacked and burnt Perperikon in A.D. 378. At the start of the fifth century A.D., once Christians had been converted among the mountain dwellers, the site took over as episcopal centre within the region. By late fourteenth century rule under Ottomans led to conquest and destruction of the fortresses there. Now though, remnants stand proud again - today we see renewed splendor shining forth across what has become known as 'Perperikon'. This sacred place holds significance not just archaeologically or historically speaking, nor merely because of its natural surroundings either—it also represents something truly special due to being home to multiple religions throughout time making it quite simply astonishingly rare indeed! And that makes it worthy enough to be considered amongst our world wonders... As for the nearby Sanctuary found close to Tatul village itself, another impressive example exists showcasing prehistoric Bulgarian architecture through large scale monolithic stones forming part of yet more stunning Megalithic Monuments unearthed thus far only ever seen anywhere else in present day Europe prior now than those uncovered right here beneath Bulgar skies themselves. Dating all the way back towards finalesque period between Fifth Century BCE onwards perhaps even earlier still according certain interpretations given some features observed onsite which could potentially point toward possible existence previous phases construction work carried out long beforehand too?
