The Juatinga Crossing is not just a hike — it is a fully guided, immersive expedition through one of the most preserved coastal regions of Brazil, inside the Reserva Ecológica Estadual da Juatinga, in Paraty.
Over 4 days and 36 km of trekking, travelers explore remote beaches accessible only by trail or boat, swim in natural waterfalls, hike through lush Atlantic Forest, and stay in traditional caiçara communities. This is a rare opportunity to experience authentic Brazil beyond conventional tourism routes.

📍 Detailed Itinerary with Distances & Difficulty
🥾 Day 1 – Vila Oratório → Ponta Negra
Distance: ~8 km
Estimated hiking time: 4–5 hours (with breaks)
Difficulty level: Moderate
The trail begins with coastal sections and forest paths, including some ascents and descents. Expect warm weather and uneven terrain. Several stops for swimming in waterfalls and resting at scenic beaches.
Overnight in local caiçara accommodation at Ponta Negra.
💦 Day 2 – Saco Bravo Waterfall → Cairuçu das Pedras
Distance: ~10 km hiking + boat transfer
Estimated hiking time: 5–6 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging
This is one of the most demanding days due to steeper sections and technical terrain on the way to Saco Bravo Waterfall. The reward is one of the most spectacular natural pools in Brazil, dramatically positioned above the ocean.
After returning to Ponta Negra, we take a boat to Cairuçu das Pedras Beach for overnight camping.
🌴 Day 3 – Cairuçu das Pedras → Sumaca Beach
Distance: ~8 km
Estimated hiking time: 4–5 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate
Forest trails with gradual elevation changes and sections of dense Atlantic vegetation. The day is physically manageable but requires stamina due to humidity and heat.
Overnight near Sumaca Beach in a remote and peaceful setting.
🌅 Day 4 – Juatinga Lighthouse → Saco do Mamanguá → Paraty
Distance: ~10 km hiking + boat transfers
Estimated hiking time: 5–6 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging
Early morning ascent to Juatinga Lighthouse with panoramic ocean views. Later, hike up Pico do Pão de Açúcar in Saco do Mamanguá, which includes a steeper climb but offers one of the most impressive viewpoints of the region.
Return by boat to Paraty in the afternoon.
Estimated arrival: 6:00 PM.
